A pink one this time, In a few months I will be the grandmother to a Baby Girl! I'm so happy I can't elaborate, Please be happy for me.

Caleb's b-day Quilt

Caleb's birthday card arrived while I was in the middle of my Roman Stripe piecing.

For a micro second It occurred to me I should make a quilt to celebrate his growing up !!

But,... what pattern?

Once I had time to think, it occurred to me I actually had a lot of bugs in a jar! ( fron an old swap) and if I hurry, and with the help D/H with meals and stuff I could in the little time I have, complete the quilt in a week!!

I do better under pressure. lol

Cinco De Mayo was not a celebration priority this year, so I spend the afternoon piecing it. I quilted in my old MONTGOMERY WARD machine, this was given to me on my first anniversary many years ago, we just celebrated or 30+ this week .

This morning I made the label and I will make to the party on time.

Easter Baskets

Roman Stripe

I put my rally hat on and guess what, I completed this Roman Stripe " top" I took the picture on Sunday, I just finished it , I'm thinking I should put a border though, it could easier to quilt, the "bias" edge could be trouble on a " long arm"

It is getting quilted by none other that Joyce, my best friend who now lives in Maine, Joyce are you reading this I hope so,...get ready and be thinking what design
are you going to use.

I had to unearth the blocks from the bottom of the"UFO" dungeon, I participated on a swap long ago I forgot what year, but wait, perhaps some one of the members of Common threads could come to my aid and tell us the age of the blocks, I'm thinking,.. 05

1834 Walter Hunt devised a double-thread shuttle
machine. (He also invented, but failed to profit

1846 ELIAS HOWE INVENTS AND PATENTS THE FIRST
AUTOMATIC SEWING MACHINE FOR PRACTICAL APPLICATION

1849 Benjamin Wilson introduces an automatic feed
system

1851 Issac Merritt Singer invents and introduces
the first sewing machine scaled for home use

1854 Singer is issued a patent for the home
sewing machine. Allen Wilson develops a
reciprocating shuttle, then goes into business
with Nathaniel Wheeler to produce a machine

few more! They would all share in royalties

Just think, each of these men working on
his own, with no internet or communication,
figured out a piece of the sewing machinery
puzzle to allow us to be able to sew
and quilt with such ease! We salute them
all, but especially Elias Howe!

In the early 1800s, everything--garments,
linens, clothing and outer wear--was hand
sewn with needle and thread. Elias Howe
invented a way to make clothing and bedding
in much less time when he patented the
first practical sewing machine in 1846. The
speed and efficiency of his machine must
have seemed awesome. The thrill of having
such a labor-saving machine in the home must
have been a real kick! The previous sewing
machines had all been for industrial use.

I know it has been long since my last post, I'm trying to spend more time in the sewing room and less in the computer. Not many read this post anyhow, well perhaps because I'm not on line a lot.


Today I will visit a quilt, I made back in 1994 before I even read the book " Liberated Quilting" I used many of my "scraps" pieces to make this quilt. I borrowed a book from the local library, It is hand quilted , not perfect
